Because I love going to school and am a little obsessed with education, one year after earning my MA I decided to pursue additional studies to become a school counselor.
The fall of 2015 marked my first semester as a M.Ed School Counseling student and I have completed about 27 credits thus far. The School Counseling program is 48 total, but I think I will stay for the additional 12 credits so I am eligible for the LPC credential someday. While I don't have much experience in the field yet, I have learned a lot that this past year and have taken advantage of many professional development opportunities outside of the classroom. Two of these included attending (and presenting at) the Pennsylvania School Counselor Association conference in February, 2016 and participating my university's GRaD Experience in May, 2016. In the spring of 2016, I completed my 100 hour practicum at a local high school and learned so much about the systemic issues often found in the counseling field, as well as highlights and problems specific to my district.
In conclusion, I've wanted to be a school counselor for a long time though and feel now that I'm pursuing a dream. Please check out the Latest News and Ideas page for what I'm working on now.
